are you getting what you want?
I mean this in a very broad sense.
I also mean it in combination with God's role in your life, if He is involved.
I mean it in combination with your own desires and hopes and dreams, and with the limits of your capacity.
For example if you want to be a doctor, but you haven't gone to 12 years of med school, being a doctor is outside of your capacity.
You may or may not be able to change that, based on your will, your place in life, your prior choices, etc.
But if you follow me because in some way perhaps I motivate you to get "more" out of life . .
or because I help you connect deeper with the God who gives more . . .
would it be okay if we take a moment and have some truth around getting what you want?
First, I GET that bad things happen to good people.
Disease.
Abuse.
Addiction.
Good people make mistakes that alter their lives.
So . . . please take this from where you are.
Are you making a living wage, but desire to own your own business?
Are you unemployed, but want to earn $22 an hour?
Are you making $100k in your day job, but desperately want a life of freedom, with a membership or perhaps even an ai app that changes lives and people pay you?
Those are just examples for YOU to assess your current situation.
You see, outside of things that are DONE to you (abuse, hurricane devastation, deadly disease you didn't contribute to)
YOU can almost always, with God's help, determine a plan out.
You may have to plot and plan to leave an abusive spouse, and it might take 2 years.
You might have to spend 2 years rebuilding your home after a tornado takes it.
You might have to spend 2 years in rehab because you drank too much, or ate too much, or did other things to your body in years past.
But notice that these changes rarely happen OVERNIGHT.
Which means that you have to have staying power.
So . . . philosophy aside . . .
Are you where you want to be in life?
If NOT -
before you can determine the STEPS to take to get free . . .
You must determine where you want to GO
Do you want a job making $30 an hour?
If so, what kind of training do you need to be hirable?
Do you want to build a membership teaching folks to overcome whatever YOU have overcome?
If so, what training and steps do you need to take to build that?
Do you want to build a generative ai startup and sell it for $10 million in a few years?
If so, what steps do you need to take to do that?
Do you see the pattern here?
So . . . on this Monday . . I encourage you to take the time to WRITE OUT
what do you want?
And then write out the STEPS to getting what you want.
Write out what you are willing to sacrifice to get it.
What is reasonable and within your capacity?
What help do you need?
.
By the way, here's the ugly truth . . .
most people who want change
Will NEVER do the hard work of taking just a few hours to answer those questions, or put their pride aside long enough to ask for help, and then be willing to take the direct criticism and feedback of those they ask.
I perhaps shouldn't say this, and may delete when I proofread but it's on my heart:
Do you have any idea how many people come to me asking for advice, they tell me their sob story, how they have been hurt and betrayed and stolen from, and the mess of their life is all someone else's fault.
And I'm not arguing that their mess wasn't caused by someone else.
But they ask for help.
I give them the steps and solution.
And they either say:
that won't work, and go away sad
or they say, I'll do it
and then 6 months later I ask how the plan is going
and you guessed it:
someone ate their homework and it's someone else's fault
Look, if that's you, consider that a proverb.
Take notice and be wise.
In my own life, one year ago - actually less than a year ago - I decided to make changes in my own life
I had to humble myself
Give everything to God in the most humble, devastating way possible
And work hard to make changes
But less than a year later, He has transformed my life.
I've been rich
I've been poor
I've been sick
I've been stolen from
But none of that defines me.
I live in the moment.
With the power of God in my life, flowing through my fingers as I type this morning.
and the faith and choices I make today, with God's authority and power and meekness and blessing
Will determine the fruit of my NEXT month and my next year.
So I humbly implore you:
If you are NOT satisfied with your current life
Deeply assess what YOU and GOD can do
so that one year from now
You ARE satisfied with your life.
In love,
Sean
