I would love your guidance and help with this. I am one of the many writers transitioning from Medium to Substack. Though it's not easy, I refuse to give up.
My life is full of challenges, and my writing is my life stories. I write about what I face each day taking care of two loved ones. They are suffering from Alzheimer's and Traumatic Brain Injury.
In the last ten years, I have learned to accept with gratitude and courage to carry on. This is my message to all facing similar situations: never give up, and take care of yourself while you care for your loved ones.

Hey Sean! I'm actually doing exactly that. I honestly am not doing it for money, and definitely not for fame, but it would also be nice if someday It actually helps in paying the bills 😅 I've been doing it for many years cause I enjoy documenting my travels. You can check it out 🙂👇🏽😉
Astrid, you have a beautiful channel, and you travel to beautiful places!
I guess the question would be, would you WANT to put more time and effort into coordinated posts, and spend time inviting people to your channel and substack . . .
or are you happy just posting the beautiful videos and posts for now?

Love that email Sean. You capture the situations and the opportunities so well. I've been focused on YT this year and seeing a little traction with it. It's always been 'how to' type of topics for me but then i've seen some traction this year with the internet marketing type of audience - enough traction that my channel got monetized. That was my goal for the year. I set up a substack account a few months ago but have not used it. I'm just afraid to do both if that makes sense. I work too and have family. And i just want to keep momentum and every time i think about substack i get afraid that i'm going to be diluting myself and my time and end up with neither one working out. So any guidance youhave in that respect - how to do both without failing would help me.
Jim, so without knowing more about your goals and how much time you actually have, I have to initially agree that if you add something else, you'll split your effort on YouTube, and the fruit will likely go down.
If you are on a good path on YouTube, and would be happy if it grew 30% a quarter for a couple of years, I would double down.
Substack would mean adding writing - and some time socializing here (in comments and notes) - and wouldn't be a ton of cross over traffic, at least at first.

I'd definitely be interested in how you think about content that is only for Substack or if you are republishing the same content on Youtube. We write for founders, business owners, and CEOs. Every week we interview an entrepreneur who share their "Test. Fail. Learn. Grow" story. The live/unedited video goes out to LinkedIn and streams to other socials, and then I edit that down to the best moments and lessons, paired with a newsletter written by Adam House with how to apply these lessons to our businesses.
my gut feeling is that if you are already producing good videos for Substack, that those videos could easily be used on Youtube.
BUT if you don't actively work the YouTube channel and audience, similarly to how likely work an audience here and I'm guessing linkedin, the videos will sit there and collect dust.
So I think that it's not just a matter of putting the same content over there - which in concept is fine - but it is that you will be nurturing a second audience, which requires more time and /or team effort.

I'm building an online multi-media forum for prayer for Canada. Despite all the blustering and bravado of its politicians and the subservient national media, Canada is in a MASSIVE MESS, and desperately needs God to step in and heal the nation: spiritually, politically, socially and economically. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Along with a nation-wide exhortation to daily prayer, this also includes an easily searchable business directory, where Christians can choose to support Christian businesses who are actively helping to build God's Kingdom.
In addition to other growth initiatives, I would also like to maximize a multi-media influencer presence. I believe your input could add considerable value.
Tom, that's powerful! Our country needs prayer and more God too -
oh! wait! that's the whole world!!
serious joking aside . . .
can you see yourself doing FaceTime style YouTube videos to really connect with people, and combine that with viral-style substack articles, to fuel discussion about prayer?
Tom, just a question at this time - it takes a very specific path, and a strong element of charisma or deep believability + the right words at the right time - to increase impact with face shot style videos - so I won't just come out and say I believe strongly that it will increase impact, without seeing more of what you are doing -

I'm trying to think of how we could connect that - so my experience is in influencer marketing - where you are teaching something to other humans - and building an expert status around that.
We'd probably have to set up a 2-step concept - where we build you as the expert on something (e.g. ai for service businesses)
Build that in a way that is scalable
And THEN that presence would trickle down into home service company leads.
'
'But it wouldn't produce leads right away.
Are you good with building an influencer presence FIRST and letting the leads come in down the road and more organically?

I don't know, I'd have to try it and see how the algorithm responds. If they are just posted on yt without interaction or a presence over there, the likely response is that nothing will happen - just posting them will be mostly a black hole.
Thanks, Sean — this was clear, energizing, and very timely. Too many people still underestimate the long game behind building real influence, especially on platforms like Substack and YouTube. What you describe feels right on point: this is the window. But only for those willing to show up consistently — and strategically.
And if you're curious about the YouTube side in depth:
I’ve also published a complete investigative report (not just a newsletter) titled THE YOUTUBE GAME (https://theredpillfiles.substack.com/p/youtube-isnt-a-playground-its-a-machine). It’s a fully developed dossier available on my site — for those who want a serious understanding of the mechanics behind visibility, monetization, and influence on the platform.

With living mindfully, the hardships ease.
Thank you for sharing -
I admire the work you are doing for your loved ones.
It's not easy.
I like your message.
Are you willing to produce videos personally - showing who you are, teaching on camera?
And then tying that into the work you do here at substack?
Yes, that is my goal.
Zizi thank you
mind if I ask you a couple more questions here to help with my planning for this article, if I write it?
Yes,please.
thank you.
So what have been your top 3-4 challenges, that have made it not easy to transition from medium to substack?
What is your current biggest challenge with getting the word out, so that you can change lives?
I am getting to know Substack. I have been posting on notes and publishing my articles from Medium, but the interaction is low.
I would love to start a newsletter, but I'm unsure if it will help or where and how to start it.
Thank you all for the great support

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!

love it - getting some early replies - if I get at least 50, I'll seriously consider writing it -
I don't want a fast, fluffy article - I want to get into some details.
What do you feel would be the BEST part about combining YouTube and substack the way I described in the article?
would it make sense to have your Substack videos auto sent to YT (like they have now)?
I don't know, I'd have to try it and see how the algorithm responds. If they are just posted on yt without interaction or a presence over there, the likely response is that nothing will happen - just posting them will be mostly a black hole.

👉 I recently wrote this newsletter: Substack Doesn’t Need You To Succeed. It Needs You To Believe (https://theredpillfiles.substack.com/p/substack-doesnt-need-you-to-succeed). It’s a breakdown of how the platform’s business model works — and why it profits even when most writers don’t.
